Diagnosing Temporal Misbehavior
Proceedings of the Twelfth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence. Qualitative Reasoning. Pages 1116-1121.
Abstract
One of the main goals of model-based diagnosis is the detection and localization of failures that are very difficult to diagnose even for human experts. Especially transient failures require a sophisticated problem-solving strategy and often overcharge an experienced human diagnostician. Unfortunately, such transient failures occur in many applications and cause unacceptable misbehavior. Therefore, dealing with failures which have a temporal aspect is a challenging task for model-based diagnosis. However, current research on model-based diagnosis treats assumptions about the component behavior as static and therefore fails to reason about time-varying failures. In this paper we present a new approach to model-based diagnosis which enables us to deal with its temporal aspects.
