Abstract

We ~how that an intelligent approach to color can be tued to ~ignificantly improve the capabilitie~ of a vi~ion ~ytem . In previotu work, we adopted general phy~ical modelwhich de~cribe how object~ interact with light. The~e model~ are far more general than tho~e typically u~ed in computer vi~ion. In thi~ report, we tue our phy~ical mode/8 to derive powerful algorithm8 for extracting invariant propertie8 of object8 from image8. The jir8t algorithm i~ used for the generic cla88ijication of object~ according to material. The ucond algorithm provide8 a ~olution to the color con8tancy problem . Theu algorithm8 have been implemented and produce correct re8ulb on real image8. Some example8 of experimental re~ult8 are pre8ented.
