Abstract
One mark of intelligence is the ability to improve one 's problem-solving abilities with experience . Modelling this k ind o f learning is an important goal for AI , both because itis bound to lead to general insights on the nature of intelligence . and because of its practical importance for developing high-performance problem solving programs . We d iscuss some recent progress in the area of learning problem-solving expertise , as well as some directions in which research in this area is headed.
