Abstract
We highlight the growing body of systems in AI and outside where IS-A hierarchies of procedures co -occur with more traditional ones of objects, and we c lassify the various types of specializations. We then give formal definitions which approximate their intended meanings and, finally, examine their utility using as a criterion the way in which they aid program verification .
