A Computer Model of Child Language Acquisition
Proceedings of the Seventh International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence. Learning. Pages 92-95.
Abstract
Children learn d~fferent aspects of language in a characteristic order, . and make cnaracteristic errors during acquisition. This paper focusses on five specific data, and explains these data in terms or two hypotheses regarding the relationship of comprehension to generation and the relationship between meaning and syntax. A computer model, CHILD, is described wnich embodies these hypotheses and which manifests the same five data. CHILD's performance suggests that the explanations are plaus~ble.
