Proceedings of the Third International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence. Theorem Proving and Logic: 2. Pages 153-160.
Abstract
The representation power of goal-subgoal trees and the adequac y of this form of problem reduction i s considered. A number of inadequacie s in the classical form are illustrated, and two versions of a sy ntactic procedure incorporating extension s are given. Although the form of the correction s are s ugge s ted from re s olution theor y results, and the value of this connection emphasized, the paper di s cusses the goal tree for ma t and its extensions on an informal level.
