While GNNs are typically applied in the multi-input multi-output (MIMO) case, the approximations are performed in the single-input single-output (SISO) case. In this work, we first derive the MIMO graph convolution through the convolution theorem and approximate it directly in the MIMO case. We find the key MIMO-specific property of the graph convolution to be operating on multiple computational graphs, or equivalently, applying distinct feature transformations for each pair of nodes. As a localized approximation, we introduce localized MIMO graph convolutions (LMGCs), which generalize many linear message-passing neural networks. For almost every choice of edge weights, we prove that LMGCs with a single computational graph are injective on multisets, and the resulting representations are linearly independent when more than one computational graph is used. Our experimental results confirm that an LMGC can combine the benefits of various methods.","doi":"10.24963/ijcai.2025/681","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2025/681","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2025/0681.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2025/681.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2025/bibtex/681","volume":{"slug":"2025","title":"Proceedings of the Thirty-Fourth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 2025","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2025/","year":2025,"location":"Montreal, Canada","dates":"16-22 August 2025","editors":"James Kwok","isbn":"978-1-956792-06-5","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence Organization","doi_prefix":"10.24963/ijcai.2025"},"section":"Machine Learning","track":"Main Track","number":681,"pages":{"first":6120,"last":6128},"keywords":["Data Mining: DM: Mining graphs","Machine Learning: ML: Geometric learning","Machine Learning: ML: Representation learning"],"videos":[],"references":[],"license_note":"Copyright International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence."}
