With dozens of highly parameterizable techniques developed to prove various system properties, automatic term rewriting tools work in an extensive parameter space. This complexity exceeds human capacity for parameter selection, motivating an investigation into automated strategy invention. In this paper, we focus on confluence of term rewrite systems, and apply AI techniques to invent strategies for automatic confluence proving. Moreover, we randomly generate a large dataset to analyze confluence for term rewrite systems. We improve the state-of-the-art automatic confluence prover CSI: When equipped with our invented strategies, it surpasses its human-designed strategies both on the augmented dataset and on the original human-created benchmark dataset ARI-COPS, proving/disproving the confluence of several term rewrite systems for which no automated proofs were known before.","doi":"10.24963/ijcai.2025/526","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2025/526","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2025/0526.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2025/526.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2025/bibtex/526","volume":{"slug":"2025","title":"Proceedings of the Thirty-Fourth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 2025","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2025/","year":2025,"location":"Montreal, Canada","dates":"16-22 August 2025","editors":"James Kwok","isbn":"978-1-956792-06-5","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence Organization","doi_prefix":"10.24963/ijcai.2025"},"section":"Knowledge Representation and Reasoning","track":"Main Track","number":526,"pages":{"first":4724,"last":4732},"keywords":["Search: S: Algorithm portfolios and configuration","Knowledge Representation and Reasoning: KRR: Automated reasoning and theorem proving"],"videos":[],"references":[],"license_note":"Copyright International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence."}
