We are interested in whether such a process, when iterated to termination, results in the objectively best alternatives being selected—thereby lending support to the idea that groups can be wise even when their members communicate with each other. We find that, under certain restrictions on the relative amounts of evidence, together with the actions available to the agents, there exist deliberation protocols in each of the two families we look at (i.e., simultaneous and sequential) that offer desirable guarantees. Simulation results further complement this picture, by showing how the distribution of evidence among the agents influences parameters of interest, such as the outcome of the protocols and the number of rounds until termination.","doi":"10.24963/ijcai.2023/288","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2023/288","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2023/0288.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2023/288.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2023/bibtex/288","volume":{"slug":"2023","title":"Proceedings of the Thirty-Second International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 2023","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2023/","year":2023,"location":"Macao, SAR","dates":"19-25 August 2023","editors":"Edith Elkind","isbn":"978-1-956792-03-4","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence Organization","doi_prefix":"10.24963/ijcai.2023"},"section":"Game Theory and Economic Paradigms","track":"Main Track","number":288,"pages":{"first":2589,"last":2597},"keywords":["Game Theory and Economic Paradigms: GTEP: Computational social choice"],"videos":[],"references":[{"position":1,"raw":"[Acemoglu et al., 2010] Daron Acemoglu, Asuman Ozdaglar, and Ali ParandehGheibi.
