{"type":"ScholarlyArticle","title":"Analyzing and Designing Strategic Environments in Social Domains","authors":[{"name":"Hau Chan","slug":"hau-chan","given":"Hau","family":"Chan","affiliation":"University of Nebraska-Lincoln"}],"abstract":"The cross-fertilization of AI and economic concepts has led to the advanced development of novel computational ideas. These ideas include models and approaches for analyzing multi-agent interaction (via game-theoretic models and solution concepts) in strategic environments and designing strategic environments (via mechanism design) to address principal decision-making problems involving multi-agent within various social contexts. In what follows, we will discuss our works on these two main topics. For analyzing multi-agent interaction, we will discuss several computational game-theoretic models to capture various agent characteristics and social (e.g., self-organization) domains. For designing strategic environments, we will discuss principal decision-making mechanism design settings in various social (e.g., facility location) contexts where the principal has to design mechanisms that elicit agent preferences over social outcomes and implement the principal's desirable social outcomes.","doi":"10.24963/ijcai.2022/814","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2022/814","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2022/0814.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2022/814.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2022/bibtex/814","volume":{"slug":"2022","title":"Proceedings of the Thirty-First International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 2022","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2022/","year":2022,"location":"Vienna","dates":"23-29 July 2022","editors":"Luc De Raedt","isbn":"978-1-956792-00-3","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence Organization","doi_prefix":"10.24963/ijcai.2022"},"section":"Early Career","track":"Early Career","number":814,"pages":{"first":5803,"last":5807},"keywords":["EC: Strategic Agents","EC: Game Theory,","EC: Multi-agent Systems","EC: Mechanism Design"],"videos":[{"label":"Video #1","url":"https://slideslive.com/38987226","length_sec":84,"provider":"slideslive"},{"label":"Video #2","url":"https://slideslive.com/38985369","length_sec":731,"provider":"slideslive"}],"references":[{"position":1,"raw":"[Aziz et al., 2019] Haris Aziz, Hau Chan, Barton E.
