To decide whether to bid for a previously unseen product, a facility must be able to synthesize, on the fly, a process plan controller that delegates abstract manufacturing tasks in a supplied process recipe to the available manufacturing resources. First-order representations of the state are commonly considered in reasoning about action in AI. Here we show that we can leverage the wide literature on the Situation Calculus automatically synthesize such controllers. We identify two important decidable cases---finite domains and bounded action theories---for which we provide practical synthesis techniques.","doi":"10.24963/ijcai.2022/798","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2022/798","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2022/0798.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2022/798.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2022/bibtex/798","volume":{"slug":"2022","title":"Proceedings of the Thirty-First International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 2022","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2022/","year":2022,"location":"Vienna","dates":"23-29 July 2022","editors":"Luc De Raedt","isbn":"978-1-956792-00-3","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence Organization","doi_prefix":"10.24963/ijcai.2022"},"section":"Journal Track","track":"Journal Track","number":798,"pages":{"first":5722,"last":5726},"keywords":["Knowledge Representation and Reasoning: Applications","Knowledge Representation and Reasoning: Automated Reasoning and Theorem Proving","Knowledge Representation and Reasoning: Reasoning about actions"],"videos":[{"label":"Video #1","url":"https://slideslive.com/38987249","length_sec":88,"provider":"slideslive"},{"label":"Video #2","url":"https://slideslive.com/38985392","length_sec":716,"provider":"slideslive"}],"references":[{"position":1,"raw":"[Banihashemi et al., 2017] Bita Banihashemi, Giuseppe De Giacomo, and Yves Lespérance.
