Thus, a lot of research has been conducted for neural machine translation (NMT) with very limited parallel data, i.e., the low-resource setting. In this paper, we provide a survey for low-resource NMT and classify related works into three categories according to the auxiliary data they used: (1) exploiting monolingual data of source and/or target languages, (2) exploiting data from auxiliary languages, and (3) exploiting multi-modal data. We hope that our survey can help researchers to better understand this field and inspire them to design better algorithms, and help industry practitioners to choose appropriate algorithms for their applications.","doi":"10.24963/ijcai.2021/629","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2021/629","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2021/0629.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2021/629.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2021/bibtex/629","volume":{"slug":"2021","title":"Proceedings of the Thirtieth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 2021","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2021/","year":2021,"location":"Montreal","dates":"19-27 August 2021","editors":"Prof. Zhi-Hua Zhou","isbn":"978-0-9992411-9-6","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence Organization","doi_prefix":"10.24963/ijcai.2021"},"section":"Survey Track","track":"Survey Track","number":629,"pages":{"first":4636,"last":4643},"keywords":["Natural language processing: General","Machine learning: General"],"videos":[],"references":[],"license_note":"Copyright International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence."}
