In these applications, robots rely on accurate models of human intent to administer appropriate assistance. However, the effectiveness of this assistance also heavily depends on whether the human can form accurate mental models of robot behaviour. The research problem is to therefore establish a transparent interaction, such that both the robot and human understand each other’s underlying \"intent\". We situate this problem in our Explainable Shared Control paradigm and present ongoing efforts to achieve transparency in human-robot collaboration.","doi":"10.24963/ijcai.2020/732","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2020/732","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2020/0732.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2020/732.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2020/bibtex/732","volume":{"slug":"2020","title":"Proceedings of the Twenty-Ninth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 2020","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2020/","year":2020,"location":"Yokohama","dates":"January 2021 (postponed from 11-17 July 2020)","editors":"Christian Bessiere","isbn":"978-0-9992411-6-5","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence Organization","doi_prefix":"10.24963/ijcai.2020"},"section":"Doctoral Consortium","track":"Doctoral Consortium","number":732,"pages":{"first":5184,"last":5185},"keywords":["Robotics: Human Robot Interaction","Humans and AI: Human-AI Collaboration"],"videos":[{"label":"Video","url":"https://videos.ijcai20.org/24040/file_24040.m3u8","length_sec":278,"provider":"hls"}],"references":[{"position":1,"raw":"[Abbink et al., 2018] David A.
