We formalize and streamline this procedure with argument schemes. As a result, any conclusion drawn by means of this approach comes along with a justification. It turns out that the statements which can be inferred through this process form a proper preference relation. More precisely, it corresponds to a necessary preference relation under the assumption of additive utilities. We show the inference task can be performed in polynomial time in this setting, but that finding a minimal length explanation is NP-complete.","doi":"10.24963/ijcai.2019/213","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2019/213","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2019/0213.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2019/213.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2019/bibtex/213","volume":{"slug":"2019","title":"Proceedings of the Twenty-Eighth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 2019","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2019/","year":2019,"location":"Macao","dates":"10-16 August 2019","editors":"Sarit Kraus","isbn":"978-0-9992411-4-1","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence Organization","doi_prefix":"10.24963/ijcai.2019"},"section":"Knowledge Representation and Reasoning","track":"Main track","number":213,"pages":{"first":1537,"last":1543},"keywords":["Knowledge Representation and Reasoning: Computational Models of Argument","Knowledge Representation and Reasoning: Preference Modelling and Preference-Based Reasoning","Knowledge Representation and Reasoning: Knowledge Representation and Decision ; Utility Theory"],"videos":[],"references":[{"position":1,"raw":"[Amgoud and Prade, 2009] Leila Amgoud and Henri Prade.
