Evaluating the scalability-completeness trade-off exhibited by such systems is an important requirement for many applications. In this paper, we address the problem of formally comparing complete and incomplete systems given an ontology schema (or TBox) T. We formulate precise conditions on TBoxes T expressed in the EL, QL or RL profile of OWL 2 under which an incomplete system is indistinguishable from a complete one w.r.t. T, regardless of the input query and data. Our results also allow us to quantify the degree of incompleteness of a given system w.r.t. T as well as to automatically identify concrete queries and data patterns for which the incomplete system will miss answers.","doi":"10.5591/978-1-57735-516-8/IJCAI11-371","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2011/371","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2011/0371.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2011/371.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2011/bibtex/371","volume":{"slug":"2011","title":"Proceedings of the Twenty-Second International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 2011","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2011/","year":2011,"location":"Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain","dates":"16–22 July 2011","editors":"Toby Walsh","isbn":"978-1-57735-512-0; 978-1-57735-513-7; 978-1-57735-514-4; 978-1-57735-515-1; 978-1-57735-516-8","publisher":"AAAI Press/International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence","doi_prefix":""},"section":null,"track":"","number":371,"pages":{"first":2226,"last":2230},"keywords":[],"videos":[],"references":[{"position":1,"raw":"[Baader et al., 2002] F.
