In this paper, we de-vise a time-step optimal algorithm for this problem when all but a few parameters of the sensor/target system are unknown. Using the concept of cover-ing graph, we find an optimum solution for a single sensor, which is extended to multiple sensors by a tagging operation. Both covering graph and tagging are novel concepts, developed in the context of the detection problem for the first time, and bring a mathematical elegance to its solution. Furthermore, an implementation of the resulting algorithm is found to perform better than other notable ap-proaches. The strong theoretical foundation, com-bined with the practical efficacy of the algorithm, makes it a very attractive solution to the problem.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2007/344","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2007/0344.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2007/344.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2007/bibtex/344","volume":{"slug":"2007","title":"Proceedings of the Twentieth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 2007","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2007/","year":2007,"location":"Hyderabad, India","dates":"","editors":"Ramon López de Mántaras","isbn":"","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence","doi_prefix":""},"section":null,"track":"","number":344,"pages":{"first":2135,"last":2139},"keywords":[],"videos":[],"references":[],"license_note":"Copyright International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence."}
