Knowing the different variations can significantly improve the results of name-searches on various source texts, especially when recall is important. In this paper we propose two novel phonetic models to generate numerous candidate variant spellings of a name. Our methods show threefold improvement over the baseline and generate four times as many good name variants compared to a human while maintaining a respectable precision of 0.68.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2007/253","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2007/0253.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2007/253.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2007/bibtex/253","volume":{"slug":"2007","title":"Proceedings of the Twentieth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 2007","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2007/","year":2007,"location":"Hyderabad, India","dates":"","editors":"Ramon López de Mántaras","isbn":"","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence","doi_prefix":""},"section":null,"track":"","number":253,"pages":{"first":1570,"last":1574},"keywords":[],"videos":[],"references":[],"license_note":"Copyright International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence."}
