The movies were based on a novel representation of verb semantics called maps for verbs. We asked preschool-school-age children to describe the movies, and demonstrated that their distributions of words could be predicted by the dynamical aspects of the movies. These results lend support to the empiricist position that word meanings are learned associatively.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2005/68","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2005/0068.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2005/68.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2005/bibtex/68","volume":{"slug":"2005","title":"Proceedings of the Nineteenth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 2005","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2005/","year":2005,"location":"Edinburgh, Scotland, UK","dates":"","editors":"","isbn":"","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence","doi_prefix":""},"section":null,"track":"","number":68,"pages":{"first":1022,"last":1026},"keywords":[],"videos":[],"references":[],"license_note":"Copyright International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence."}
