The result of this semantic leap is the transference of meaning from one concept to another from which metaphor derives its name (literally: to carry over). Such generalization and re-specialization can be achieved using a variety of representations and techniques, most notably abstraction via a taxonomic backbone, or selective projection via structure-mapping on propositional content. In this paper we explore the extent to which a bilingual lexical ontology for English and Chinese, called HowNet, can support both approaches to analogy.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2005/54","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2005/0054.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2005/54.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2005/bibtex/54","volume":{"slug":"2005","title":"Proceedings of the Nineteenth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 2005","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2005/","year":2005,"location":"Edinburgh, Scotland, UK","dates":"","editors":"","isbn":"","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence","doi_prefix":""},"section":null,"track":"","number":54,"pages":{"first":1148,"last":1152},"keywords":[],"videos":[],"references":[],"license_note":"Copyright International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence."}
