Effective probing requires minimizing the cost of probing while maximizing the diagnostic accuracy of the probe set. We show that pre-planning an optimal probe set is NP-hard and present polynomial-time approximation algorithms that perform well. We then implement an active probing strategy which selects probes dynamically and show that it yields a significant reduction in probe set size in both simulation and a real system environment.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2003/189","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2003/0189.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2003/189.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2003/bibtex/189","volume":{"slug":"2003","title":"Proceedings of the Eighteenth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 2003","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2003/","year":2003,"location":"Acapulco, Mexico","dates":"","editors":"Georg Gottlob","isbn":"","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence","doi_prefix":""},"section":null,"track":"","number":189,"pages":{"first":1337,"last":1337},"keywords":[],"videos":[],"references":[],"license_note":"Copyright International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence."}
