We propose an approach to representing the grammatical structure of sentences in the states of the model. We also investigate using an objective function during HMM training which maximizes the ability of the learned models to identify the phrases of interest. We evaluate our methods by deriving extractors for two binary relations in biomedical domains. Our experiments indicate that our approach learns more accurate models than several baseline approaches.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2001/167","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2001/0167.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2001/167.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2001/bibtex/167","volume":{"slug":"2001","title":"Proceedings of the Seventeenth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 2001","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2001/","year":2001,"location":"Seattle, Washington, USA","dates":"","editors":"","isbn":"","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence","doi_prefix":""},"section":null,"track":"","number":167,"pages":{"first":1273,"last":1278},"keywords":[],"videos":[],"references":[],"license_note":"Copyright International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence."}
