The mechanism is based on a stochastic version of cellular automata. A parameter similar to a temperature can be tuned to change the behaviour of the system. It is found that the best coordination occurs near a phase transition between order and chaos. Coordination does not rely on any particular structure of the connections between agents, thus it may be applicable to a large array of sparsely communicating mobile robots.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2001/140","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2001/0140.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2001/140.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2001/bibtex/140","volume":{"slug":"2001","title":"Proceedings of the Seventeenth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 2001","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/2001/","year":2001,"location":"Seattle, Washington, USA","dates":"","editors":"","isbn":"","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence","doi_prefix":""},"section":null,"track":"","number":140,"pages":{"first":1037,"last":1041},"keywords":[],"videos":[],"references":[],"license_note":"Copyright International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence."}
