Instead, we define a general semantic framework for an ACL in terms of protocols. We then argue that the proper role of mental attitudes is to link what an agent 'thinks' about the co ntent of a message to what it 'does' in response to re ce iving that message. We formalise this connection through normative and informative specifications and de monstrate its use in communication between two BDI-style agents.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1999/70","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1999/0070.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1999/70.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1999/bibtex/70","volume":{"slug":"1999","title":"Proceedings of the Sixteenth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1999","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1999/","year":1999,"location":"Stockholm, Sweden","dates":"","editors":"Thomas Dean","isbn":"","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence","doi_prefix":""},"section":"Distributed AI","track":"Distributed AI","number":70,"pages":{"first":486,"last":490},"keywords":[],"videos":[],"references":[],"license_note":"Copyright International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence."}
