One of the most striking manifestations of temporal aliasing is the apparent reversal of motion commonly referred to as the \"wagon wheel effect.\" In this paper, we examine temporal aliasing from the standpoint of joint spatiotemporal/ spatiotemporal-frequency representations. We show that apparent motion reversal can be explained using these representations, and demonstrate that a motion estimation algorithm based on such a representation (the 3-D Gabor transform) can accurately predict this illusion.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1999/162","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1999/0162.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1999/162.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1999/bibtex/162","volume":{"slug":"1999","title":"Proceedings of the Sixteenth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1999","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1999/","year":1999,"location":"Stockholm, Sweden","dates":"","editors":"Thomas Dean","isbn":"","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence","doi_prefix":""},"section":"Robotics and Perception","track":"Robotics and Perception","number":162,"pages":{"first":1140,"last":1144},"keywords":[],"videos":[],"references":[],"license_note":"Copyright International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence."}
