Currently, these appr~aches exist in isolation as there is no coherent explanatiOn of their sources of strength vis a vis the traditional refinement planners. In this paper, I provide a generalizeview of refinement planning, that subsumes both traditional and newer approaches to plan synthesis. I will interpret the contributions of the new approaches in terms of a new subclass of refinement planners called \"disjunctive planners\". This unifying view raises several intriguing possibilities for complementing the strengths of the various approaches. I will identify and pose these as challenges to the planning community.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1997/7","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1997/0007.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1997/7.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1997/bibtex/7","volume":{"slug":"1997","title":"Proceedings of the Fifteenth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1997","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1997/","year":1997,"location":"Nagoya, Japan","dates":"","editors":"Martha E.
