# Generating Multimedia Briefings: Language Generation in a Coordinated Multimedia Environment

## Abstract

Communication can be mor e effective when several media (such as te xt, sp eech , or graphics) are integrated and coordinated to pr ese nt information . This changes th e nature of me dia specific gene ration (e.g., language generation) which must take into account the multim e dia context in which it occurs. In this paper, I will pr esent work on coordinating and int egra ting speech, text, static and animated 3D graphics, and stored imag es, as part of several systems we hav e develop ed at Columbia University. A pa rti cular focus of our work has been on the generation of presentations th at brief a user on information of int erest.
