Five general tasks are distinguished which need to be addressed by such systems. For each task, techniques employed in a sample of systems are discussed, and it is shown how the lessons learned from these systems can be taken into account with a set of unified techniques that make use of well-understood concepts and principles from Multi-Attribute Utility Theory and Bayesian networks. The se techniques are illustrated as realized in the dialog system PRACMA","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1995/242","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1995/0242.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1995/242.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1995/bibtex/242","volume":{"slug":"1995","title":"Proceedings of the Fourteenth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1995","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1995/","year":1995,"location":"Montréal, Québec, Canada","dates":"","editors":"Chris S.
