In this paper, we present compositional model-based design (CMD), which addresses these problems by adopting a divideand-conquer strategy and by interleaving design generation and testing. The CMD method divides the specified behavior into separate fragments and constructs locally correct design fragment~ for each. The design fragments are then incrementally composed until a design for the entire specified behavior is obtained. We show how the CMD may be used for the conceptual design of a steam-boiler control system.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1993/200","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1993/0200.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1993/200.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1993/bibtex/200","volume":{"slug":"1993","title":"Proceedings of the Thirteenth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1993","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1993/","year":1993,"location":"Chambéry, France","dates":"","editors":"Ruzena Bajcsy","isbn":"","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence","doi_prefix":""},"section":"Qualitative Reasoning and Naive Physics","track":"Qualitative Reasoning and Naive Physics","number":200,"pages":{"first":1445,"last":1449},"keywords":[],"videos":[],"references":[],"license_note":"Copyright International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence."}
