In addition to having a 150° view of the environment as input, the agent also maintains a representation of her immediate surroundings. This representation is referred to as an MFIS, a Memory For one's Immediate Surroundings. Arguments for the use of the MFIS are presented. The main questions that we ask in implementing our ideas are: (i) what frame of reference is appropriate for the MFIS? and (ii) how does the MFIS change as the agent moves through the environment? A program has been implemented successfully and the main algorithms used and the results of running the program are presented.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1991/56","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1991/0056.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1991/56.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1991/bibtex/56","volume":{"slug":"1991","title":"Proceedings of the Twelfth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1991","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1991/","year":1991,"location":"Sydney, New South Wales, Australia","dates":"24-30 August 1991","editors":"John Mylopoulos and Ray Reiter","isbn":"","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence","doi_prefix":""},"section":"Cognitive Modeling","track":"Cognitive Modeling","number":56,"pages":{"first":373,"last":379},"keywords":[],"videos":[],"references":[],"license_note":"Copyright International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence."}
