Part of speech tagging, per se, is a well understood problem. Our paper reports experiments in three important areas: handling unknown words, limiting the size of the training set, and returning a set of the most likely tags for each word rather than a single tag. We describe the algorithms that we used and the specific results of our experiments on Wall Street Journal articles and on MUC terrorist messages.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1991/141","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1991/0141.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1991/141.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1991/bibtex/141","volume":{"slug":"1991","title":"Proceedings of the Twelfth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1991","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1991/","year":1991,"location":"Sydney, New South Wales, Australia","dates":"24-30 August 1991","editors":"John Mylopoulos and Ray Reiter","isbn":"","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence","doi_prefix":""},"section":"Natural Language","track":"Natural Language","number":141,"pages":{"first":960,"last":964},"keywords":[],"videos":[],"references":[],"license_note":"Copyright International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence."}
