Methods have been developed to optimise the checking of an update by specialising the constraints for the information that could have been affected by it. The optimisation has been applied to sets of updates resulting from the execution of unspecified update procedures. This paper investigates the compilation of integrity checking into the procedures themselves. The paper introduces a (procedural) update language, and describes how constraints are compiled into procedures expressed in this language. The compilation yields conditions on the original database state that guarantee safety of the update. The paper also shows why compilation into procedures offers important possibilities for optimisation not available in the earlier framework.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1991/133","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1991/0133.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1991/133.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1991/bibtex/133","volume":{"slug":"1991","title":"Proceedings of the Twelfth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1991","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1991/","year":1991,"location":"Sydney, New South Wales, Australia","dates":"24-30 August 1991","editors":"John Mylopoulos and Ray Reiter","isbn":"","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence","doi_prefix":""},"section":"Logic Programming","track":"Logic Programming","number":133,"pages":{"first":903,"last":909},"keywords":[],"videos":[],"references":[],"license_note":"Copyright International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence."}
