The model is composed of three parts: a planning-time mechanism that places blocked goals into memory for later activation, an understanding system that activates suspended goals as a byproduct of parsing the world, and an executiontime process for evaluating opportunities and merging newly activated goals into the planning/execution agenda. We discuss this model in terms of examples from TRUCKER, a routescheduling system, and RUNNER, an errand planner.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1989/81","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1989/0081.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1989/81.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1989/bibtex/81","volume":{"slug":"1989","title":"Proceedings of the Eleventh International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1989","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1989/","year":1989,"location":"Detroit, Michigan, USA","dates":"August 20-25 1989","editors":"N.
