The approach brings together ideas from the fields of machine learning, computational geometry, and pattern recognition. Two heuristics for evaluation of newly-constructed features are proposed, and their statistical significance verified. Finally, it is shown how the proposed framework can be used to combine techniques for selection of representative examples with techniques for construction of new features, in order to solve difficult problems in learning from examples.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1989/104","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1989/0104.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1989/104.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1989/bibtex/104","volume":{"slug":"1989","title":"Proceedings of the Eleventh International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1989","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1989/","year":1989,"location":"Detroit, Michigan, USA","dates":"August 20-25 1989","editors":"N.
