We define a simple (purely declarative) frame language allowing for multiple inheritance and meta classes (i.e. the instances of a class may be classes themselves). Expressions of this language are translated into first order formulas. Circumscription of a certain predicate in the resulting theory yields the desired semantics. Our approach allows the intuition that subclasses should override superclasses to be represented in a very natural way .","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1987/95","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1987/0095.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1987/95.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1987/bibtex/95","volume":{"slug":"1987","title":"Proceedings of the Tenth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1987","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1987/","year":1987,"location":"Milan, Italy","dates":"","editors":"John McDermott","isbn":"","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence","doi_prefix":""},"section":"Knowledge Representation","track":"Knowledge Representation","number":95,"pages":{"first":483,"last":487},"keywords":[],"videos":[],"references":[],"license_note":"Copyright International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence."}
