However, learning from solutions Is only one strategy for Improving performance. This paper describes how the PRODIGY system uaes explanation-based specializAtion to learn from a variety of phenomena, Including solutions, failures, and goal-interactions. Explicit tllrget concepts describe these phenomena, and each target concept Is associated with a strategy for dynamically Improving the performance of the problem solver. Explanations are formulated using a theory describing the domain and the PRODIGY problem solver. Both the target concepts and the theory are declaratively specified and extensible.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1987/46","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1987/0046.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1987/46.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1987/bibtex/46","volume":{"slug":"1987","title":"Proceedings of the Tenth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1987","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1987/","year":1987,"location":"Milan, Italy","dates":"","editors":"John McDermott","isbn":"","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence","doi_prefix":""},"section":"Knowledge Acquisition","track":"Knowledge Acquisition","number":46,"pages":{"first":228,"last":234},"keywords":[],"videos":[],"references":[],"license_note":"Copyright International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence."}
