Explanation is interleaved with generalization, so that as the training instance is proven to be a positive example of the goal concept, the generalization is simultaneously created. All aspects of the EBG task are viewed in logic, which provides a clear semantics for EBG, and allows its integration into the logic-programming system. In this light operationality becomes a property requiring explicit reasoning. Additionally, viewing EBG in logic clarifies the relation of learning search-control to EBG, and suggest. solutions for dealing with imperfect domain theories.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1987/45","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1987/0045.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1987/45.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1987/bibtex/45","volume":{"slug":"1987","title":"Proceedings of the Tenth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1987","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1987/","year":1987,"location":"Milan, Italy","dates":"","editors":"John McDermott","isbn":"","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence","doi_prefix":""},"section":"Knowledge Acquisition","track":"Knowledge Acquisition","number":45,"pages":{"first":221,"last":226},"keywords":[],"videos":[],"references":[],"license_note":"Copyright International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence."}
