This paper explains how a student model can provide the knowledge needed to make presentation decisions. Systems that use a student model for this purpose can make problems more interesting, challenging, and hand-tailored to students. We describe DECIDER: a program that improves student's decision-making abilities by constructing an environment where they can confront problems and decide on a plan of action. DECIDER chooses from a database of decision-making problems and varies how it presents those problems based on a model of the student's knowledge of goals, plans, and priorities.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1987/33","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1987/0033.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1987/33.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1987/bibtex/33","volume":{"slug":"1987","title":"Proceedings of the Tenth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1987","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1987/","year":1987,"location":"Milan, Italy","dates":"","editors":"John McDermott","isbn":"","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence","doi_prefix":""},"section":"Cognitive Modeling","track":"Cognitive Modeling","number":33,"pages":{"first":174,"last":175},"keywords":[],"videos":[],"references":[],"license_note":"Copyright International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence."}
