It makes the point that each of the different research activities highlights different aspects of an input-expectation reduction mechanism and neglects others. A comprehensive view of this mechanism has been constructed and applied in the design of a cognitive industrial robot. The mechanism is explained as both a key for machine learning strategies, and a guide for the selection of appropriate memory structures to support intelligent behavior.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1985/49","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1985/0049.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1985/49.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1985/bibtex/49","volume":{"slug":"1985","title":"Proceedings of the Ninth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1985","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1985/","year":1985,"location":"Los Angeles, California, USA","dates":"","editors":"Aravind Joshi","isbn":"","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence","doi_prefix":""},"section":"Cognitive Modelling","track":"Cognitive Modelling","number":49,"pages":{"first":267,"last":272},"keywords":[],"videos":[],"references":[],"license_note":"Copyright International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence."}
