The method is illustrated by specifying two programs, one a toy example and the other a program for retrieving information from a declarative knowledge base. Close examination shows tha t many intuitions about the properties of a retriever can be stated rigorously in terms of inference and that the model-theoretic specification can then be used to prove that the retriever has these propert i es .","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1985/27","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1985/0027.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1985/27.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1985/bibtex/27","volume":{"slug":"1985","title":"Proceedings of the Ninth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1985","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1985/","year":1985,"location":"Los Angeles, California, USA","dates":"","editors":"Aravind Joshi","isbn":"","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence","doi_prefix":""},"section":"Automated Reasoning","track":"Automated Reasoning","number":27,"pages":{"first":148,"last":153},"keywords":[],"videos":[],"references":[],"license_note":"Copyright International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence."}
