This paper describes the architecture of Cake , which is divided into eight layers, each with associated representations and reasoning procedures. The operation of Cake is illustrated by a complete trace of the solution of an example reasoning problem. We also argue that a hybrid system in general is characterized by the use of multiple representations in the sense of multiple data abstractions, which does not necessarily imply distinct implementation data structures.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1985/103","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1985/0103.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1985/103.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1985/bibtex/103","volume":{"slug":"1985","title":"Proceedings of the Ninth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1985","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1985/","year":1985,"location":"Los Angeles, California, USA","dates":"","editors":"Aravind Joshi","isbn":"","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence","doi_prefix":""},"section":"Knowledge Representation","track":"Knowledge Representation","number":103,"pages":{"first":540,"last":545},"keywords":[],"videos":[],"references":[],"license_note":"Copyright International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence."}
