A subsumption relat1o n between Concepts is defined . which is related to se t mclusion by wa y of a semantics for Concepts . This subsumption relat ion defines a partia l order on Concepts , and KL-ONE organ izes all Concepts into a ta xonomy that reflects this partial order . Class ification is a proc ess that takes a new Concept and determines other Concepts that either subsume it or that it subsumes , thereby determining the location for the new Concept within a given taxonom y. We discuss these issues and demonstrate some uses of the classification algo rit hm.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1983/76","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1983/0076.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1983/76.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1983/bibtex/76","volume":{"slug":"1983","title":"Proceedings of the Eighth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1983","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1983/","year":1983,"location":"Karlsruhe, West Germany","dates":"","editors":"Alan Bundy","isbn":"","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence","doi_prefix":""},"section":"Knowledge Representation","track":"Knowledge Representation","number":76,"pages":{"first":330,"last":331},"keywords":[],"videos":[],"references":[],"license_note":"Copyright International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence."}
