The scheme allow s the explicit representation of both declarative and procedural knowledge within a unified framework, yet retains all the desirable properties of expert systems such as modularity, explanatory capability, and extendability. It thus bridges the gap between the procedural and declarative languages, and allows formal algorithmic knowledge to be uniformly integrated with heuri st ic declarative knowledge. A version of the scheme has been fully implemented and applied to the domain or automobile engine fault diagnosis.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1983/35","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1983/0035.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1983/35.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1983/bibtex/35","volume":{"slug":"1983","title":"Proceedings of the Eighth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1983","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1983/","year":1983,"location":"Karlsruhe, West Germany","dates":"","editors":"Alan Bundy","isbn":"","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence","doi_prefix":""},"section":"Expert Systems","track":"Expert Systems","number":35,"pages":{"first":151,"last":156},"keywords":[],"videos":[],"references":[],"license_note":"Copyright International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence."}
