In this paper we analyze the topological constraints on the changing appearance of line drawings of objects as the objects or the camera move. We start with a Huffman·Ciowes junction dictionary. We show a way of deriving vertex types from junction types by inference rather than by table look·up. We then derive thre e constraints on the change in appearance of an object: conservation of vertices , conservation of vertex type, and conservation of adjacencies. Using these constraints , we develop a rnatc1'1ing algorithm that traces vertices from one image to the next. Examples are given showing correct matching for simple objects, including partially visible objects and multiple objects in the same scene.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1983/225","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1983/0225.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1983/225.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1983/bibtex/225","volume":{"slug":"1983","title":"Proceedings of the Eighth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1983","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1983/","year":1983,"location":"Karlsruhe, West Germany","dates":"","editors":"Alan Bundy","isbn":"","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence","doi_prefix":""},"section":"Vision","track":"Vision","number":225,"pages":{"first":959,"last":964},"keywords":[],"videos":[],"references":[],"license_note":"Copyright International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence."}
