Activation-Based Parsing
Proceedings of the Eighth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence. Natural Language. Pages 678-681.
Abstract
A model is presented that desc ribes natural language parsing in terms of a uniform activation algorithm which operates over an interco nn ected, dcchrative st ructure of nodes and node instances. The :>lg o rithm directs the flow of activation and expectation using only lo ca l inform:>tion a nd, hen ce, su pports substantial concurrency. A rep rese ntation is introdu ced to express nod e relationships and activat.ion agreement. Examples of several linguistic processes and their intrrr ebtin nships are desc ribed.
