The system is developed to perform in a way which approximates the actions of a phonetician trying to transcribe a foreign tongue, (in the case of FOPHO, AustralianEnglish). Because of this central philosophy, FOPHO is a very interactive system and has facilities for automatic learning and analysis of its own performance. Good quality recognition is achieved through algorithms which are very context-dependent and which are sensitive to a variety of possible productions of similar sounds even though the system itself is speaker independent.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1983/149","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1983/0149.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1983/149.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1983/bibtex/149","volume":{"slug":"1983","title":"Proceedings of the Eighth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1983","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1983/","year":1983,"location":"Karlsruhe, West Germany","dates":"","editors":"Alan Bundy","isbn":"","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence","doi_prefix":""},"section":"Natural Language","track":"Natural Language","number":149,"pages":{"first":630,"last":631},"keywords":[],"videos":[],"references":[],"license_note":"Copyright International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence."}
