Currently the problem solver is based on negative heuristics, which has led to surprising efficiency in suitable domains. The lesson seems to be that it is easier to avoid being stupid than to try to be smart. Stupid plans are defined and a plan improvement method proposed. Analyses of stupid plans and failed plans suggest effective negative heuristics.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1981/68","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1981/0068.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1981/68.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1981/bibtex/68","volume":{"slug":"1981","title":"Proceedings of the Seventh International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1981","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1981/","year":1981,"location":"Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada","dates":"24-28 August 1981","editors":"Roger C.
