In such interactions, the speaker c an encode his intentions that the hearer act in a variety of sentence types. Instead of telling the hearer what to do 1 the speaker may just state his goals, and expect a response that meets these goals . This paper presents a new model for recognizing the speaker's intended meaning in d etermining a response. We show that this recogn i tion makes use of the speaker's plan, his beliefs about the domain and about the hearer's relevant capacities.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1981/41","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1981/0041.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1981/41.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1981/bibtex/41","volume":{"slug":"1981","title":"Proceedings of the Seventh International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1981","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1981/","year":1981,"location":"Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada","dates":"24-28 August 1981","editors":"Roger C.
