The authors developed a system named MECS-AI(MEdical Consultation System by means of Artificial Intelligence), which is designed as a general purpose tool for constructing systems with capability to treat time-oriented data. The basic idea of this system is to describe the time flow as a chain of discrete events. As a general purpose tool, the system consists of an inference-engine and a knowledge-base editor, so that consultation systems in any field can be easily defined and tested.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1981/173","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1981/0173.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1981/173.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1981/bibtex/173","volume":{"slug":"1981","title":"Proceedings of the Seventh International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1981","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1981/","year":1981,"location":"Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada","dates":"24-28 August 1981","editors":"Roger C.
