We are interested in their strong points and how these are achieved , and in their weak points and what can be done about them. We compare some excellent play by Belle, the current World Computer Chess Champion , with what expart humans would do in the same situation. These comparisons show that such programs already are capable of displaying what is usually called imagination and understanding . Finally, we examine the prospects for a brute-force program in championship level play.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1981/109","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1981/0109.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1981/109.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1981/bibtex/109","volume":{"slug":"1981","title":"Proceedings of the Seventh International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1981","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1981/","year":1981,"location":"Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada","dates":"24-28 August 1981","editors":"Roger C.
