The results are reported without proofs, together with discussions of motivations and interpretations. Highlights include the following: relations between the precision of the heuristic estimates and the average complexity of the search, comparisons of the average complexities of A* and BACKTRACKING, procedures for comparing and combining non-admissible heuristic functions, the influence of the weight ul [in f = (1-w)g + wh] on the complexity of A*, determination of the branching factors of alpha-beta and SSS*, and the effects of successor ordering on the complexity of alpha-beta and of search depth on the quality of decisions.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1981/104","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1981/0104.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1981/104.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1981/bibtex/104","volume":{"slug":"1981","title":"Proceedings of the Seventh International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1981","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1981/","year":1981,"location":"Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada","dates":"24-28 August 1981","editors":"Roger C.
